Teen
in Recovery
18 Year Old White Female
My father suffers
from depression, and my mother is an alcoholic. I inherited both of their
diseases. My parents divorced when I was 14 years old, and my Mom's new
boyfriend moved in with us. He started molesting me. When the pain became
inescapable I turned to drugs, cocaine, and ecstasy. I gave my mom an
ultimatum after telling her what her boyfriend was doing to me, him or
me. She chose him.
Living
on my own, using drugs and trying to support myself while going to school,
I had a nervous break down, and tried to kill myself by overdosing on
cocaine. Upon discharge from the hospital I realized I had a problem when
a friend offered a gram of cocaine and I could not say no, even after
just overdosing! I went to treatment and then a 12-step program when I
got out. I started rebuilding my life. I have been clean for 6 months
now, graduated with my class, and am now looking to go to college. Though
issues still remain between my mother and I, my peers, and sponsor from
my 12 step program have given me the strength to deal with them in a positive
health way, without having to turn to drugs.
